Stools incontinence after delivery is found in about 2% of population. It could be damage to the sphincter of anus during childbirth. It could also be due to extreme stretching of the muscles during childbirth.
The patient needs complete examination of the perineum. The three openings there (for urine, stools, and vagina and) should be examined, Especially the tone of anal sphincter, damage to vaginal opening which has also involved rectum , and leakage of urine.
For treatment , if there is anatomical damage it has to be repaired. In addition the technique of squeeze pelvic floor muscles (also known as Kegle's manoeuvre) should be practiced 10-12 times at a stretch , each lasting for 15-20 seconds). The whole thing should be done many times in a day.
