Acute knee pain
My mother is suffering from acute knee pain for the past 8 years. And after a chain of consultations in Kochi we were asked to do the knee replacement surgery. Recently we heard about a new procedure : protein injection http://www.orthospinenews.com/the-single-protein-injuection-which-could-replace-the-need-for-knee-surgery-for-osteoarthritis-sufferers/. Kindly give a clarification of the same

By your description, patient is probably having osteoarthritis of knees. This is akin to wear and tear. Injections in the joint are of controversial value at best. That too only in early stages of disease. Injections usually have an effect which lasts only a few months. I will suggest not to get a feeling that injection will cure the disease. In advanced stages, replacement is a very good and effective treatment
Next Steps
X ray of knee in standing position.

Get physiotherapy sessions from a good experienced physio I don't see any reason why it can't be managed through strengthening and stretching sessions with adjunct therapeutic modalities.
