ACL surgery procedure and recovery time
I wanted to get an idea about the procedure for mulit ligament tear (ACL and MCL) surgery. Also the recovery time after the surgery.

For ACL tears usually another tendon is sacrificed from around the knee which is of lesser importance and used to make a new ACL in the knee by making tunnels in the bones and fixing the ligament inside. Stiffness is common after any joint surgery and physiotherapy helps recover from that and gain good movement. 6 to 12 months is expected recovery period.

Both ligaments surgery will take around 2hours duration. Patient will be mobilized from next day with crutches, long knee brace over knee.

Knee movements and exercise to strengthen muscles will start slowly

Will take 6months to get back to pre injury state after return to play assessment
