For ACL tears usually another tendon is sacrificed from around the knee which is of lesser importance and used to make a new ACL in the knee by making tunnels in the bones and fixing the ligament inside.
Stiffness is common after any joint surgery and physiotherapy helps recover from that and gain good movement.
6 to 12 months is expected recovery period.
