Hello, ideally flu vaccine should be given once every year to children below 5 years of age. As the virus shifts every year it's advised to give the flu shot, yearly, in the monsoon to kids below 5 years of age.
Now, in the 2nd wave of the covid pandemic, it has been seen that kids are affected by covid as well. So the govt has advised for all kids to take the flu shot before monsoon this year, before the 3rd wave hits. The flu vaccine does not prevent covid, but it gives protection from the flu which presents with symptoms very similar to covid.
