Dizziness that has been worsening over 2 days needs prompt evaluation to identify the cause, as there are many possible reasons ranging from benign to serious. The most common causes include: low blood pressure (especially if she feels dizzy on standing up â orthostatic hypotension), low hemoglobin (anemia is extremely common in women and causes persistent light-headedness), inner ear issues like BPPV (Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo â triggered when she changes head position, very treatable), low blood sugar (if she hasn't eaten well), thyroid dysfunction, dehydration, or a viral inner ear infection. The fact that it has worsened over 2 days means it should be evaluated today â do not wait further. If she has dizziness with a severe headache, weakness of the face or limbs, slurred speech, or loss of consciousness, take her to an emergency room immediately â these could indicate a stroke.
Next Steps
Check her blood pressure at home right now and note the reading â check both sitting and standing. Keep her well hydrated (ORS or water). Take her to a doctor today for a basic examination including BP check, blood sugar, and blood tests (hemoglobin, thyroid, blood glucose). If the dizziness is spinning-type (vertigo) and gets worse with head movements, mention BPPV specifically to the doctor â it can be treated in the clinic with a simple head manoeuvre (Epley's manoeuvre).
