Hello,
Your child likely has a worm infection (most commonly pinworms or roundworms), which can cause: Abdominal pain, Constipation, Irritability, Itching around the anus (especially at night), Poor appetite or disturbed sleep
Next Steps
Deworming medicine (e.g., Albendazole 400 mg single dose) is usually given.
Repeat the dose after 2 weeks, if advised.
Treat all family members if reinfection risk is high.
Encourage high-fiber foods (fruits, vegetables, whole grains)
Increase fluid intake
Avoid excessive sweets/junk food which may worsen constipation
Health Tips
Trim nails short and keep hands clean
Teach proper handwashing, especially after using the toilet and before eating
Wash fruits and vegetables thoroughly
Change underwear daily and wash bedding regularly
Avoid walking barefoot outdoors
If abdominal pain or constipation persist beyond a few days after deworming, revisit for further evaluation.
Give her syrup albendazole 10 ml once in the night for worms.
For constipation-
Increase fiber: fruits (banana, papaya, pear), vegetables, whole grains
Increase water intake
Avoid too much milk or processed snacks
Next Steps
Maintain hygiene.
Health Tips
Consult with the paediatrician if it is not responding to medicines, for further evaluation and treatment
Give her Syp Zentel 20 ml at night. Repeat it again after 2 weeks
Whole house including the cook should take a deworming course to eradicate the problem - for adults it’s Tab Zentel 1 tab at night, repeat after 2 weeks
For constipation encourage good water intake. Fruits , vegetables and salad in all forms. Prune juice, apple juice is helpful. Whole grain pulses rather than without the peel. Roti rather than rice. If rice then add vegetables and chick peas to it.
Children like to have finger foods, make the meal times enjoyable, they eat better in company.
Seasonal fruits like mangoes and watermelon are perfect to treat constipation and so are their juices, purées and shakes
Take care that the child doesn’t have pica - no mud eating!
