2.5 year old leg pain
Hello, my 2.5 year old son always has leg pain at night. We have given him calcium syrup for 2 years. Whenever he does more physical activities in the garden the leg pain gets worse. He starts crying at night continuously sometimes I give him ibugesic syrup then he gets relief. Could you please provide your suggestions on this. We do not want to give him ibugesic every time.

This condition is called as “Growing pains and is very common in young children due to fast growth. Gentle massage and Compression helps in this. If condition persists then u should get Vit D levels checked and consult pediatrician.

Your son is having growing pains and increased after more exertion as lactic acid get accumulated in muscle at end of the day. Despite the condition name, there's no evidence that growth is painful. The pain is likely due to muscle overuse during the day. Growing pains are to treated by hot and moist fomentation ,stretching ,massage and some analgesics if pain is more trouble some. VitD, calcium and vitamin E supplements are not helping much.

there are multiple causes of limb pain during this age because it can be normal due to growth pain. it can also occur due to nutritional deficiency mainly vitamin d, vitamin b12 iron and calcium deficiency. if there is excessive playful activity by the child during the daytime it is but obvious that during the night time there might be limb pain. if the limbs are paining without any activity then yes medical examination and treatment will be required

Sorry to hear of the trouble he is having. Sometimes it is musculoskeletal pain ( muscle, bone pain) which on heavy excercise causes the trouble. However, please get a physical examination for peace of mind so that nothing is missed. If then need be, doctor can consider if blood tests are warranted or not
