Hi
My 1 month old tsh value is 23 while free t4 and other values are normal.
What are the long term complications?
Does tsh value get normal after 2 years? What are the chances?
Can someone please help? There's not much information about this on internet.

the child is having hypothyroidism and you will have to continue thyroid medicines for the child. there is no side effect of the medicine because it is only given to replenish the decreased thyroid hormone in the body. but not giving the medicine can cause side effects of hypothyroidism. doctor will tell you how to give the dosage to the child and how frequently investigation is required to assess the level of thyroid hormone and TSH.
usually the doctor will give a trial to decrease the amount of thyroid medicine around 2 years of age. most cases have lifelong hypothyroidism.
