Liposuction in Chennai

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is Liposuction?

A surgical procedure that uses suction to remove fat from the specific area of the body is called Liposuction. It is also known as Lipoplasty and Body contouring. Liposuction is also used to shape (contours) the specific areas. Liposuction is not typically used as a weight-loss alternative or a weight-loss method. If an individual is overweight, then one should try reducing weight through diet and exercise or even bariatric procedures such as gastric bypass surgery. If an individual is unable to lose weight even after these, then Liposuction is performed. Liposuction can only be done when there is a lot of body fat in specific spots but other body parts are stable.

Why is Liposuction done?

Liposuction is done to remove fat from specific body areas such as:

  1. Abdomen
  2. Chin and neck
  3. Upper arms
  4. Buttocks
  5. Chest and the back
  6. Hips and thighs
  7. Calves and ankles

What are the types of Liposuction?

There are 4 types of Liposuction and they are:

  1. Tumescent Liposuction
  2. UAL (Ultrasound-Assisted Liposuction)
  3. LAL (Laser-Assisted Liposuction)
  4. PAL (Power-Assisted Liposuction)

What are the risks involved in Liposuction?

Few of the risks involved in Liposuction are:

  1. Irregular contouring
  2. Accumulation of fluid
  3. Numbness
  4. Toxicity of lidocaine
  5. Infection
  6. Internal puncture
  7. Fat embolism
  8. Kidney and heart problem

What happens during the Liposuction procedure?

  1. Liposuction may require either local or general anesthesia. The sedative can be given through IV injection to keep the patient calm and relaxed.
  2. The surgical team will monitor the patient’s heart rate, blood pressure, and oxygen level throughout the procedure. The dose of anesthesia can be adjusted during the procedure. The procedure can last up to several hours depending on the amount of fat to be removed.
  3. If the patient is given general anesthesia, then the patient will wake in a recovery room and typically spend at least a few hours in the hospital or clinic so that medical personnel can monitor the patient’s recovery.
  4. The patient may stay overnight to make sure that he/she is not dehydrated or in shock from fluid loss.

What are the results after Liposuction?

  1. Swelling after liposuction is normal and should subside within a few weeks.
  2. The area treated will look less bulky and within a few months, the area treated will have a leaner appearance.
