Immunological disorders affect nearly 10- 20 % of Indian population. These conditions include a number of systemic autoimmune disorders like rheumatoid arthritis(RA), systemic lupus erythematosus(SLE), psoriatic arthritis and scleroderma. They lead to chronic debilitation, life-long illness, and premature mortality and very high medical and social costs. Although these types of diseases affect a large percentage of the population, they are not diagnosed early and are inadequately managed. There is also various myths about the immunosuppressive drugs used for their treatment, hampering the management of these well controllable diseases.Dr Vikramraj K Jain is a Clinical Immunologist & Rheumatologist. He did his MBBS from the prestigious Bangalore medical college , following which he completed his MD in internal medicine from SMS medical college, Jaipur. It is here he was exposed to rheumatology working in a rheumatology unit for 3 years. Post MD he worked in Chanre rheumatology and immunology centre – a specialized centre for rheumatology. He further pursued his DM in Clinical Immunology from JIPMER , Pondicherry which is an institute on national importance. He later worked as Assistant Professor in Clinical Immunology at the same institute. He has also completed European league against rheumatism (EULAR) certification courses in rheumatology and musculoskeletal ultrasound. He has numerous publications to his credit in national & international journals. He has also made several oral and poster presentarions in both regional, national and international conferences.His special interest lies in inflammatory arthritis, SLE, myositis, scleroderma and musculoskeletal ultrasound. His endeavour is early and accurate diagnosis of autoimmune rheumatic diseases and their prompt management.
