Visited Dr. Maan Singh Khatana (Physiotherapist)
On 21st March, my life changed drastically when I was diagnosed with Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS) and admitted to Paras Hospital. Within a short span, I found myself in a completely paralysed state—unable to move my legs or hands. It was an incredibly difficult time, both physically and emotionally. I couldn’t imagine how or when I would return to a normal life.
After being discharged, my recovery process began at home on 2nd April under the dedicated care of Dr. Maan and her assistant Kiran, who became key pillars in my healing journey. They started with a tailored physiotherapy program that included manual exercises and TENS machine therapy to stimulate nerve responses and slowly restore muscle function.
Month 1: Total Paralysis
I was fully dependent on others, even for basic movements. Physiotherapy sessions focused on passive range-of-motion exercises and nerve stimulation using the TENS machine to maintain circulation and prevent muscle atrophy.
Month 2: First Signs of Hope – Leg Movement Begins
By the second month, I experienced slight movement in my legs—a small but incredibly hopeful sign. Encouraged by Dr. Maan’s calm expertise and Kiran’s gentle care, I kept pushing through each session. Though progress was slow, it was steady.
Month 3 and 4: Standing and Early Hand Movements
This phase brought visible improvement. I was able to stand with support, and began to feel tingling and slight control in my hands and fingers. Hand exercises were added to my routine, focusing on grip strength and coordination.
Month 4: 70% Recovery Achieved
By the end of the fourth month, I had achieved approximately 70% recovery. I could now walk short distances independently, manage small tasks with my hands like holding objects, and my balance had significantly improved. My hands were slower to recover than my legs, but steady progress continued.

Final Thoughts:
This journey taught me patience, strength, and trust in the healing process. Physiotherapy was not just physical—it was mental and emotional support as well. The dedication of Dr. Maan and Kiran, the use of consistent exercise routines and TENS therapy, and the unwavering support of my family helped me reach where I am today.
While I’m still continuing therapy for full recovery, these four months have given me back my confidence and hope. To anyone going through GBS: Recovery is real, even if it’s slow. Every small improvement counts.
