Firstly, Xray and CT scans have radiation exposure. MRI is magnetic resonance imaging - there is no radiation exposure in MRI.
Secondly, there is a certain limit above which radiation exposure leads to cancer. Just because you go and have two or three Xrays does not mean you have a higher chance of getting cancer. There are higher chances of getting cancer by smoking and alcohol than from getting an Xray.
Thirdly, MRI gives more information but MRI is more expensive and it takes a longer time than an Xray as well.
So whether you require MRI or Xray should ideally be decided by a doctor after examining you and knowing your full history. If you have chronic back pain please show an orthopedic in your area first. Let them examine you and then decide whether you need an Xray or MRI.
It is your body.
It is your money.
You can get whatever you want. Both are available in India.
An X-ray may cost ₹ 300-400 and an MRI may cost ₹ 7000-8000.
But who will decide what MRI you should have.
