Wearing retainer after long time it hurt
Hi doctor, Out of curiosity i wore my old plastic retainer i used to wear two years ago and found that it fit me really tight. Does that mean my teeth are shifting?? Why is it so? Doctor recommended to wear only for 2 years. Do retainer need to be wear forever?

Don’t worry. Retainer gets distorted if not used for longer periods.

Retainer is important after orthodontic treatment. Some orthodontic treatment needs permanent retention. There are more chances of relapse with cases of spacing and severely crowed teeth. In those cases you need fixed lingual retainer for lifetime to retain teeth in same position. If your case is like that plz visit orthodontist and get permanent retainer. And the retainer which you were wearing will made like that only that it tightly fit on your teeth to retain them.
Next Steps
Always visit to your orthodontist every 3 months or check up.

Since doctor recommended your retainer only for 2 yrs ,please consult the dentist and check whether there is any relapse of your previous malocclusion.if there is any relapse ,your dentist will recommend you new retainer.

Retainers are supposed to be worn for 2 years after removing the braces and then you can wear those just at night. A little shift must have happened in the last 2 years, that’s why they feel tight. You can check with your Pre op pictures, and see if the alignment is still the same or not.
Next Steps
Consult an Orthodontist.
Health Tips
Do not wear your old retainer, as they will be uncomfortable and tight.
