In depression clinically repetitive obsessive negative thoughts can be present which after detailed evaluation by your psychiatrist diagnosed as depression with oc symptoms. In your friend purely obsessive compulsive disorder is present as per your provided information which have presentations of obsessive thoughts, images which cause immense distress to patients to relieve his distress patients do the compulsive actions to feel better. This cycle keeps going and causes further distress to patients.
A person with depression can OC features, which are in the form of repetitive negative cognitions and behavior, not necessarily OCD symptoms. When particular SSRIs are selected it resolves both the symptoms. Do not confuse it with OCD. Follow your psychiatrist advise. Good luck
If you think you have no OC symptom and still being diagnosed with OC features then you need to consult another psychiatrist in person, preferably at a teaching hospital or medical College.
OC features means there are some OCD like symptoms but it is not full OCD. OC symptoms can be found in patients with depression. With treatment depression and OC features, both will resolve. Do not worry.
