The decision to quit alcohol is the most important of all in the process of quitting . Alcohol addiction causes not only psychological craving but also physical craving meaning you will have raised heart beat ,sweating , restlessness and agitation in anticipation of alcohol. It is very difficult to quit because of all those reasons. But there are places and people who can help you in the process.First you need to consult a psychiatrist who would motivate you ,make your resolve to quit stronger and prescribe some anticraving medication .You might also experience some alcohol withdrawal symptoms which the psychiatrist or a physician would be able to treat.secondly to achieve sustainable or long time abstinence from alcohol is one more challenge . Majority of the people who quit go back to drinking. But  you can overcome that by taking help of an organisation called Alcoholic anonymous which has to its credit transformation of crores of alcoholics all over the world.AA holds regular meetings to keep you motivated . Remember drinking is a habbit. Every habbit has a loop-you develop a craving - you do the routine ie drink alcohol- your brain gets a reward. Here you need to change the loop by changing the routine .This is based on research studies done on habbit and reward process in the brain.Your brain associated with craving and reward will still be the same ,but there is another part of your brain called prefontal cortex associated with will power, has to develop and you need to change routine-ie drinking and replace it with some other pleasure able activity which gives the same reward to the brain. You will be able to quit drinking with the help of Psychiatrist, your self motivation and Alcoholic Anonymous. You are on the right path by making the decision.
