There are many causes for redness in gums... It may be due to plaque and calculus that can be treated by scaling and polishing if still these problems persist than we can rely on multi-vitamins also. But without thourogh examinations of the gums it is difficult to interpret about deficiency of vitamin b12.

Symptoms of b12 defcy are redness and burning of tongue (glossitis) , oral ulcerations along with general symptoms of fatigue , weakness ,shortness of breath,neurologic symptoms etc .

First of all want to know the duration of the redness and pain ,since how many days , its there .
Any medications u r taking over a long period .
Recently taken any medicine or had food from outside . It can be allergic stomatitis also .
U cannot come to the diagnosis without ur blood investigation .
avoid spicy food and beverages
local application of triamcenolone acetonide ,0.1percent tds will give symptomatic releif .
consult physician with d reports and if vit b12 defcy is ruled out , then follow d medications prescribed by ur physician for d same .
