Viral - vomit and sometimes diarrhea
Hi, my son is 18 months old now and last couple of days he is going through viral like vomiting and sometimes diarrhea. Upon checking by the doctor, he prescribed some medicine and ors too but my son doesn't take ors. So does he need IV fluid and how much time does it take to give the iv fluid like overnight hospitalization or a few hours??

If the child is dehydrated, then you might need hospitalisation for 2-3 days depending upon the illness, and if the child is Clinically fine, then the doctor might send you after some treatment if child starts accepting orally

It will depend on dehydration status, in severe dehydration with continued loose stools and vomiting the admission time will prolong to atleast 24-48 hour or until then child stabilizes.
