Difficulty holding urine, a feeling of leakage, warmth or a wet patch, and cramps in the bladder or penis area at the age of 17 is a problem that needs proper evaluation but is very treatable. The most likely causes in a young male include: urge urinary incontinence or overactive bladder (OAB) â where a sudden, strong urge to urinate cannot be held and leads to leakage before reaching the toilet; a urinary tract infection (UTI) â which causes burning, frequency, urgency, and crampy discomfort in the bladder and penis; or post-void dribbling â where small amounts of urine leak out after finishing urination due to urine pooling in the urethra. Stress and anxiety can also contribute to frequent urination and a feeling of urgency in young people. This is not something to feel embarrassed about â it is a medical condition that urologists treat commonly and effectively. Please do not ignore it as it can affect your daily life and studies.
Next Steps
Get a urine routine and microscopy + urine culture done first to check for infection. Then consult a Urologist who will examine you and may advise a pelvic ultrasound with post-void residual measurement. Do not try to manage this on your own with medicines â a proper diagnosis is needed first. Please consult me directly on Practo for a detailed evaluation.
