Urinary Stricture
Dad recently had urinary stricture caused by repeated catheter insertions and cystoscopy during his recent hospital stay for Kidney stone removal and related complications. He was dialated a month back. He was able to pass urine well after that. But now he got a UTI (Klebsiella Pneumoniae) . He has been taking antibiotic for more than 10 days. He complains he is still feeling slight burning when urinating and feels urinary speed has reduced a bit although not as bad as the first time when he got dilatation. He says he is able to pass urine well bit for the slight burning. So my question is will Urinary Structure get progressively worse? Can he wait it out to see if it settles at this level or go for another dilation?

Hi. Urethral stricture usually has a tendency to progress. Treatment depends on the length of the stricture length and the site of stricture. If he has already had one episode of dilatation and not found relief, you should discuss surgical option- urethroplasty with your urologist, if he is fit to undergo open procedure.
