Umbilical Hernia or not?
Hi my 2 month old child has a protruding belly button that started appearing only last week. It is about 1.5 cm in diameter and bulges out by 0.5 to 1.5 cm depending on if he is being held or sleeping. There is no puss or blood or fever but it is slightly reddish .. there is no open wound either. Should I be concerned? What is the cause? His pediatrician prescribed Fucidin H cream and said it's very minor hernia and will go away slowly.

You're describing classic umbilical hernia, leave it alone,no ointment needed. It usually heals by itself in about a year's time. If persistent even after that, will need surgery.
