Omega-3 fatty acids: These are essential fats found in fatty fish, flaxseed, walnuts and fortified products.Including these foods provides valuable nutrients. There is no evidence to date that omega-3 fatty acids significantly reduce inflammation of ulcerative colitis to improve symptoms, but some patients choose to take a fish oil supplement. These supplements should be stopped before procedures/surgery because they may prolong bleeding time.
