Tuberculosis
After my pleural effusion test, in which ADA was 90.. I was diagnosed with Extrapulmonary Tuberculosis. I was admitted in a private hospital and was given a few medicines to take on a regular basis. I was asked to take isoniazid and rifampicin empty stomach and Ethambutol and Pyrzanine after food. My doctor asked me to consult a Pulmonologist as I had fluid in my right lung. When I met the Pulmonologist, he took my weight and based on that put me on the DOTS program. Now I take Akurit4 every morning on an empty stomach . My question here is, was it safe to change my course of medication from private to government medications? Will it be a failed treatment? I am very scared!!! I started with the private hospital medicines on 16th March, whereas my medicines were changed on 6th April. Symptomatically, I usually get a temperature between 99-101.. Also, as I have fluid in my chest, the doctor said it'll take time for the fever to subside.

Both private and DOTS are equally effective just focus on continue the treatment without any gap for prescribed period of time. Repeat sample testing after 2 months of intensive phase. And then reassess

Treatment of tuberculosis is same in private and government set-up both ok. DOTS program is a W.H.O initiative for TB prevention and treatment. Dose for the TB drugs are on the basis of weight and other biochemical reports of the patients. So don't worry complete the full treatment never stop the medicines... Be in touch with your doctor.... have a healthy diet. Keep your self hydrated. Have protein rice foods ok. Don't worry fluid in your lungs will  reduce slowly slowly. When sleeping, you should lie on your side while placing a pillow between your legs. Your back should be straight, and you should also place a pillow under your head so that it is a little elevated. If this does not work, you can bend your knees slightly and place the pillow under your knees Hope this helps. Don't worry you will be fine soon.

If you're on DOTS then you're on the right treatment. Kindly consult to know more about the side effects of medicines and if you need anything additional.
