TSH 9.26 reason
I recently got a body check done and my thyroid stimulating harmone came out to be 9.26. i get a health check done every year and it is normal everytime. Could it be because of the multivitamin tablets i am having since last 3 months regularly to boost immunity. My mother is also having hypothyroidism since last many years or could it be genetic. Can someone please suggest the reason?

Most unlikely due to taking Vitamins. Hypothyroidism is basically deficiency of Thyroid hormone in body. Causes may be Iodine deficiency, Viral disease, Thyroid Surgery or idiopathic. More seen in Hill areas n females. Genetic theory not proved. You can repeat the test (TSH) from a different lab n if still its high like present test, should start Eltroxin-25 microgram daily just after rising in morn. Repeat the test after 3 months n consult.

It's not because of multivitamins. Iodine deficiency causes hypothyroidism. However there are some variants of hypothyroidism which run in the family. People who are deficient, require thyroxine replacement pretty much life long. Ofcourse with 3 monthly blood check-up, it is monitored and dose is adjusted.

Needs assessment with symptoms . Likely sub clinical hypothyroidism. Does not always need treatment. But I’m your case it might.
