My mother, who is 68 years old, has a mild lower back ache and when she walks, she must halt after a short distance because of stress and nerve discomfort in her left leg which makes it difficult to stand or walk for long periods of time and has trouble ascending stairs. Are these signs of a slipped disc, sciatica, or lumber canal stenosis? If so, kindly recommend a physiotherapy treatment plan and estimate the length of time it would take to fully recover once treatment has started. Someone suggested doing BRT every other day for 30 days while doing relaxation exercises. Some people are also advocating electrotherapy along with daily exercise therapy for an hour. Additionally, some are recommending 20 days of IFT, ultrasound, laser, and strengthening exercises. Please advise the best course of action for quick recovery.

Hello.
The symptoms you said are due to some nerve compression at lumbar spine.
Slip disc / stenosis / or anything can be confirmed only by MRI scan.
Treatment best to have physiotherapy session near you and let that doctor decide what his/her assessment suggest for her.
Basically it includes combination of some machines and manual exercises.
Do check for her vit b and vit d values..and provide accordingly.
Sometimes few medicines are also needed for symptoms like these..
Best is to visit some near by good physiotherapy clinic.
For any further queries you can consult
Thank you
She needs proper assessment, electrotherapy is adviced for 3-4 weeks but she needs proper assessment for proper treatment.
As you said the symptoms, there night be nerve compression as per her age it is common to get pains in lower back and legs.
Take her to nearby physiotherapy clinic for assessment and treatment.
Without proper investigation( mri etc) conditions u mentioned cannot be ruled out. Along back issues she might be having knee pain ( ascending stairs) . She needs a proper assessment first n then only a treatment plan can be made. Also check her calcium n vit D levels. . There can be nerve compression at back n so symptoms can be seen in leg. For this electro therapy is advised. Exercises ( back strengthening) also advised
she needs a proper assessment and manual therapy treatment and also needs to focus on posture correction sometimes weight transmission needed to be correct
need to take MRI

With any degenerative condition, there is no way of reversing it. But the main symptom of degeneration is stiffness. This can be helped.
However occasional on/off pain is usually impossible to resolve.
Seeing a physiotherapist is what you could do, so that a proper diagnosis could be made.
