You don't need Surgery to remove the tonsil stones! Just a good micro-suction unit and a probe in the ENT clinic should do. However, you need surgery to prevent further stone formation in future. Best option is LASER assisted resurfacing of the faucial tonsils which is a minimally invasive, relatively painless and much safer surgery as compared to a conventional tonsillectomy.

There are spaces in tonsil largest being called as crypta magna which in some people gets enlarged and food sticks inside causing tonsilolith or stones. Permanent cure is cryptolysis or tonsillectomy.
