Hi,
I need some help regarding my 10-week-old daughter. She has a tongue tie. Its heart shaped when she cries, it can't extend beyond her lips , it looks like the tip of the tongue is attached to the lower gum. She feeds for a very long time (40-60 mins), gets tired, and falls asleep I should keep stimulating her. Her weight gain is within normal limits but on the lower side ( birth weight - 2.9kg , weight at 9 weeks 4 days - 4.5kg). Does she need frenotomy? Is frenotomy done on kids of her age?Does tongue tie cause feeding issues & problems while eating solids? She does not have any problem latching but feeds for a very long time. She feeds every 2.5 - 3 hours in day. Night every 4-5 hours . Does not cry & is not fussy either.
Thanks in advance.

Tongue tie affects feeding only if it is grade 3 or more. So if latching is good and there are no issues with feeding you may not consider it urgently. But it needs to be under the follow up of plastic surgeon because tongue tie causes issues with speech development so this should treated before 2 years.
If latching is good ,there will be no problem feeding.but tongue tie should be released before speech development.depending on how severe it is one can take the call, but that can be decided only by directly examining
