Hello Doctor,
I had previously recommended thrombophilia screening and anticoagulant-related tests for me. Before my previous pregnancy, my Protein C level was raised, while the other tests were normal. I subsequently had a full-term pregnancy and delivered a healthy baby girl.
After my delivery, you recommended repeating the thrombophilia and anticoagulant tests. However, due to my busy schedule, I could not get them done. In the meantime, I have now conceived naturally.
I would also like to mention that I was taking Ecosprin 150 mg during my previous pregnancy.
Could you please guide me on what I should do now? Should I undergo these tests again at this stage, and do I need any medication or additional precautions considering my history?
I would be grateful for your advice on the next steps. Thank you, Doctor.
A single raised Protein C with every other thrombophilia marker normal, carried through one full-term pregnancy on Ecosprin, is reassuring, but it doesn't mean this pregnancy can skip reassessment. Protein C levels naturally fall through pregnancy, so a repeat test now needs reading against pregnancy ranges, not your non-pregnant baseline. Whether you need Ecosprin or anything else again depends on this pregnancy's own picture, congratulations by the way, rather than simply repeating last time's plan.
Next Steps
Book an early visit with your obstetrician to repeat the thrombophilia and anticoagulant panel and confirm the right plan for this pregnancy. Carry your previous report with you.
Health Tips
Please don't restart Ecosprin or any blood thinner on your own before that review, since the right choice depends on this pregnancy's own dating and findings.
