Treatments are based according to the patients problems and not according to the whims and fancies of the dentist. As such, there is no medication which can cure any dental problem, the only provide temporary symptomatic relief and the symptoms are bound to reappear after sometime. If you trust your dentist for his opinion, you should go for the root canal treatment if you want to save the tooth because the only other option to alleviate your symptoms permanently is extraction. Regards.

If root canal treatment is suggested that means cavity must be very deep. Sometime pain and extent of decay are not in correlation - little cavity can cause pain without pulp involvement and large decay with pulp involvement may not have pain .
Next Steps
Tooth decay is non reversible process . If you do not do any treatment , it’s not going to become better ; in-fact it will worsen over a period of time
Health Tips
All the best ! Keep your oral cavity clean .
