A diagnosis of HIV is made not on the basis of symptoms but by only testing for the presence of virus or its antibodies. Besides, a diagnosis of HIV infection is almost always associated with psychological fall out. SO it is advisable to seek diagnosis at VTCTs - that is, voluntary testing and counselling centers - attached to most govt hospitals and some private establishments.
