Dear Practo user ,
Ankylosing spondylitis ( aka bamboo spine) diagnosis needs to be established by getting HLA-B27 blood test ,MRI has no role in such diagnosis . Infact simple X-ray here can help coming to conclusion if vertebrae (spine bone) are getting joined with one another by abnormal bony growth as bamboo . The disease can’t be treated completely but symptoms such as pain may arise from facetal( spine joints) arthritis pain which requires radio frequency ablation . Rarely there can be disc involvement and that requires attention . Best approach is to have flexible body by doing adequate exercises and swimming like things . If still there is pain then drugs can be added along with intervention according to pain state .
Next Steps
Consult a interventional pain specialist or Orthopaedician with spine fellowship to guide you . You can take help of Physio also for helping you learn exercises for flexibility.
