Sleeping pills are not always the answer to sleep problems (insomnia). Taking these medication without a prescription and doctor's advice can do more harm than good. Sleeping problems or insomnia are mostly symptoms of some underlying medical/ psychiatric or psychological issue. Treating insomnia without a comprehensive assessment is unlikely to be of benefit to the patient. The doctor is likely to carry out detailed physical examination, interview the patient, and carry out necessary investigation to find out basis for her sleep problems. I would strongly urge you to seek a psychiatric consultation at the earliest. Hope this helps you..
