I have a very fair complexion. But lately, I have noticed that my skin is getting darker, but I do not go out and generally stay at home. What is the reason behind it? Can stress cause excess melanin production due to which I am getting darker? How can I solve this problem?

There can be several causes why your skin would turn dark or you may get pigmentation. Sun tan, overweight, pigmentation disorders like acanthosis nigricans or melasma, nutritional deficiency etc are some conditions. Unless someone examines you, we cannot know the cause. Unless we find out the cause it is difficult and pointless to treat. Please call me or send photos with detailed history using online consult option for examination and proper treatment.,

Are you having too much stress ?
There can be multiple reasons for skin getting darker .Sunlight is only one of that. Even dryness and hormonal changes can affect skin tone .And stress is another factor
Next Steps
You can start with some stress relieving life style changes including yoga. Drink plenty of water , have proper sleep and use a sunscreen eventhough you are mostly inside since the light coming through window panes can contain uv rays which can darken your skin
