Single Strand ACL tear
Hi, my orthopaedic doctor says that there is a single strand ACL tear in my knee. I had injured my knee about four months back and the MRI report said that there is intrasubstance fluid collection in the proximal 1/3rd of the ACL. For the past 4 months, I was on physiotherapy and the recovery was good and now I have returned to sports. Currently, I don't have mechanical symptoms of my knee giving way but there is pain while twisting it suddenly. I had injured the same knee 3 years back and the MRI report at that time said high grade partial tear. I never had surgery on the knee though. As I am very active in sports, my orthopedic has suggested single strand ACL reconstruction. What are its success chances? How long will it take me to return to sports after the surgery considering the physiotherapy for the past 4 months has strengthened my quadriceps? Please help

Current trend is to do All inside semi-T 4 stranded single or double bundle ACL Reconstruction. This is what we practice here at The Knee Klinik in Pune. Results are very gratifying with a very high success rate. We allow our international level or professional sports persons to hit the ground not before 6 months. Only 0 to 90 degree of flexion of knee is permitted non weight bearing in the first 3-4 weeks post surgery supported by a hinged knee brace with locking mechanism. On weight bearing we allow 0-10 degree of knee flexion with the hinges of brace locked at 10 degrees. Domestic ambulatory from day one permitted. Aggressive quads strengthening protocol is followed from day one of surgery.
