Shoulder problem
I've had a shoulder dislocation about 8 months back and my shoulder has been quite unstable since then. I play karate which requires a lot of overhead and forceful movements. The shoulder twists within the joint when I do overhead activities. I had not done an MRI of my shoulder immediately after the dislocation. Recently, I have been experiencing painful snapping. Sometimes, the pain radiates to my neck and my biceps. I find it difficult to do regular activities. What should I do?

For patients younger than 20 years, with first episode of shoulder dislocation, chances of recurrence are around 80%. Physically active sports persons are advised surgery as early as possible in such condition specially if patient is symptomatic. Rehabilitation can be tried if improvement is seen, but after second dislocation, surgery must be performed. With every subluxation or dislocation, head of humerus and glenoid get damaged gradually and if bone worsens, outcome of surgery is affected.
