Schizophrenia is a mental illnes which has biopsychosocial causation means a person with genetic predisposition when exposed to some stressors whether social or psychological( known or unknown) can develop it. This is not something which a person can impose upon self except in malingering where there is feigning of the symptoms of schizophrenia for different gains without actual causation. Consult a psychiatrist for better understanding

Schizophrenia is a multifactorial illness it can occur to any individual but the risk is high if there is Genetic history of schizophrenia, but no one can cause schizophrenia to themselves , kindly read on etiology of schizophrenia and the biological dopaminergic theory
