Some eye doctors say that rubbing the eyes can cause cylinder power changes in the eye like -0.25 and -0.50 as eye is like a ball of jelly and rubbing can change the shape of jelly.
But if it's really true that rubbing in a certain way causes eye shape to change. Then practically, rubbing the eye in some different direction or in a different way should also be able to again change its shape and restore it back to normal vision, right?. So why this concept is not properly being explained. Technically speaking it should be possible to reverse astagamatism by rubbing in some different direction then.

Cornea has multiple collegen fibres arranged with cross linkage. Yes excessive rubbing does change their arrangement minutely over time and hence there is some amount of astigmatism. Unfortunately cornea doesn't follow these technicalities and hence rubbing in opposite direction cannot neutralise the astigmatism.

Ha!Ha! Too simplistic. You need to really understand corneal biomachanics to appreciate. It is naive to hypothesize the way you are trying to make things happen the way you want. To say simply, rubbing is one cause and it could be contributing to some extend.
Cornea has a complex structure of collagen fibres which has crosslinking. This keeps changing minutely overtime. It is advised to avoid excessive rubbing, but unfortunately rubbing in different direction doesnot neutralise astigmatic power. Our body doesnot follow technical rules 🙂
