The Tempero mandibular joint (TMJ) is a complex synovial joint meaning it is lubricated by fluid in between. Clicking can happen due to many reasons. Attresion in the joint is the most common cause for clicking. It might worsen, or might limit itself, you'll get used to it. Generally they are not troublesome.
Next Steps
If it worsens you'll have to see a specialist- oral surgeon
Health Tips
A muscle relaxant for a couple of day might be helpful. Avoid doing strong jaw movements and wide openings.
Considering your above history it is tough to diagnose the case directly . In my opinion the night guard won't help in fact it may worsen the situation at times .Still thorough investigation and preliminary check up has to be done .
