Regretting about past things
Dear Experienced doctors, I have been recently experiencing remembering old thoughts which are disturbing my daily life style. I keep on thinking about past memories and I was regretting  like I would have done those things  that way at that time but i haven't done that way and something like that. So could you please suggest if any scan helps me identify any issue in brain or just it's normal feeling.

It sounds like you are struggling with rumination, where your mind keeps revisiting past events with regret. This is a common experience, often linked to anxiety, perfectionism, or unresolved emotions. While no brain scan can specifically detect overthinking, mental health assessments can help determine if this is part of anxiety, depression, or OCD-related thought patterns. However, if you have persistent memory issues, confusion, or cognitive decline, a neurologist might suggest scans like MRI or EEG to rule out any structural concerns. To manage these recurring thoughts, try thought-stopping techniques and cognitive restructuring—challenge your regrets by asking, “Would I judge a friend so harshly for the same thing?” Practicing mindfulness can also help ground you in the present instead of being stuck in the past. If these thoughts are significantly affecting your daily life, professional therapy can help you break this cycle. Hi, It’s not uncommon to experience intrusive thoughts about past memories, especially if they are associated with regret or unresolved feelings. This phenomenon is often a part of normal human experience and particularly common during times of stress or transition. However, if these thoughts are significantly impacting your daily life and causing distress, it may be beneficial to consult a healthcare professional, such as a psychologist or psychiatrist. They can help assess whether your experiences relate more to anxiety, depression, or another underlying condition rather than a specific neurological issue. While brain scans like MRIs or CT scans can identify structural abnormalities, they may not be necessary or helpful in this context, as the persistence of these memories often stems from emotional and cognitive processing rather than detectable brain changes. Therapy, particularly cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), can be highly effective in managing these types of thoughts and helping you develop healthier coping strategies. Seeking professional support could provide you with tools to better navigate your feelings and move forward.

There is no requirement for any scan, as you say you are keeping on thinking about past things and regretting. Never regret anything in life, it was destined to happen, create a daily routine on a paper and stick to it, a simple one, always ask what next , what next , if you say this you'll focus on current work and immediate and not think about past. Be happy in your present life, past will not haunt you. Connect for help.

Though it is  normal to think like that, you still have a choice within you to overcome that and lead your present life cheerfully.. For that, I would suggest you to consult a psychological Counselor to overcome this issue..
