Hello Sometimes babies pass mucus or even a little blood in the stool due to gut irritation or allergy to milk protein. It’s important to rule out infection or allergy. Possible causes include: Mild gut irritation – due to minor infection or immature digestive system Food allergy – especially cow’s milk protein allergy (CMPA): Can happen even if baby is only breastfed (from mother’s diet) Small tear near anus (anal fissure) – if baby is straining or has hard stools Swallowed mucus – if baby has cold or drools a lot
Next Steps
Clinical evaluation by pediatrician Stool test – to check for pus cells, reducing substances, occult blood
Health Tips
Red flags: Repeated blood in stool Green, frothy, or foul-smelling poop Poor feeding, vomiting, fever, or not gaining weight
