Reducing knee joint space
I have a family history of arthritis from my mother's side and I have recently discovered in an x ray that my knee joint space is reducing. I have mild discomfort and slight pain while standing up from sitting and resistance of joint in fully opening up. I am a 24 year female and for now the doctor recommended me calcium supplements and rest for 1 month. I want to know is this reversible with proper medication and care? Will I be able to get back to normal functioning of my knees? And how long the treatment usually takes?

If the arthritis have already developed its not reversible by medication alone, it’s unlikely to have osteoarthritis at this young age, you can get pain relief by medications , proper clinical and radiological examination has to be done, to get sure of osteoarthritis at this age
Next Steps
Have a standing xray ap of both knee ap and lateral, reduce weight if you are overweight and have a proper diet
Health Tips
Stay active , do quadriceps strengthening exercise ofter! You will have good results hopefully!

Arthritis of some types namely Rheumatoid arthritis can be familial/ hereditary. But having reduced joint space at the age of 24 could point to something serious/injury. With proper care and medication, a normal lifestyle can be achieved. Kindly consult with x-rays and blood investigations. Treatment typically lasts as long as pain and discomfort lasts and then lifestyle modifications should keep you comfortable.
Next Steps
x-rays and blood investigations to guide treatment further
Health Tips
Avoid squatting, sitting cross legged and maintain a low body weight.

It's very unlikely to have arthritis change at this age. It would be better if you share the X-ray.
