Hi
I can reassure you that your fear is driven by OCD, not actual risk. You’ve already had sufficient rabies vaccination and boosters—medically, you’re protected. The urge to keep taking more boosters is a compulsion, reinforced by doubt and fear, not by real exposure.
Therapy focuses on Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), where we gradually help you face the anxiety without giving in to compulsive actions like taking more vaccines. The goal is not 100% certainty but learning to live with “safe enough.”

Hello Sir
As you would have read it online also, rabies transmission is only via direct blood or fluid contact, rarely any other means as evidenced in literature
And about the Rabies OCD if so, medicines do work but you also need counseling strategies to overcome such thoughts and live a happy life following ahead
Next Steps

What youâre describing is a classic pattern of Rabies-Related OCD (R-OCD), which creates intrusive, exaggerated fear of indirect rabies transmission through things like droplets on plates, floors, or utensils. Based on current global medical consensus, rabies virus does not survive well in the environmentâit is extremely fragile once outside the host. It cannot transmit through dried saliva, touched surfaces, or environmental water droplets unless you have a fresh bleeding wound and the saliva is fresh. Your history of 25â35 vaccinations over 12 years, including full courses and recent boosters, means you are well-protected immunologically. Even if a theoretical exposure occurred, your immune memory is active and capable of neutralizing the virus. You do not need another booster after eating from that plate.
Next Steps
Continue with your psychiatric treatment, especially if youâve just started. OCD takes time to respond to therapy and medication, but your awareness is a strong step. Ask your psychiatrist to integrate Exposure Response Prevention (ERP) therapy, which is highly effective for contamination fears. You should not take more rabies vaccines for events like walking barefoot or seeing droplets unless there's a real, direct bite or scratch from an animal suspected to be rabid. Repeated, unnecessary vaccination adds to health anxiety and doesnât improve immunity further.
Health Tips
You are safe with the immunity youâve built. Try keeping a "reality checklist" on your phoneâwrite down facts like âRabies doesnât spread through food surfacesâ or âNo bite = no riskâ. Review it when doubt creeps in. Stick to grounding exercises when OCD thoughts flareâlike 5-4-3-2-1 sensory exercises or box breathing. For lifestyle, include magnesium-rich foods (pumpkin seeds, leafy greens), avoid caffeine after noon, and stay consistent with your psychiatric meds.
