Rabies exposure??
I'm from Mumbai...And I think I was exposed to rabies yesterday. I was going home after buying some cold drinks and food and on my way back, I accidentally bumped into a person who was carrying a garbage bag (it was probably dry waste or something I don't know) and I ended up touching his bag. Then after 10-15 mins, I got some itching on my head so I started scratching there and got some burning sensation and realised that I might have broke some skin there while scratching. Then I panicked and started getting thoughts like what if there was some dog saliva on that person's garbage bag and then I scratched myself with that hand. I have anxiety and OCD so its most probably nothing but my mind creating negative thoughts. But still I just wanted to ask if this is something I have to worry about ? Can rabies spread in this way ?? I'm going to my family doctor tomorrow to talk about it but it would feel really awkward so I thought first I should ask online. Thank you for helping.

It's understandable that you're feeling concerned given the situation. However, it's essential to approach this calmly and rationally. While rabies is a serious disease, the scenario you described is highly unlikely to result in rabies transmission. Rabies is primarily spread through the saliva of an infected animal, typically through a bite or scratch. The virus needs a direct pathway to enter the bloodstream, such as through broken skin or mucous membranes. In your case, even if the garbage bag had come into contact with a rabid animal's saliva, the chances of the virus surviving outside the body for an extended period and then being transmitted through a brief, indirect contact like touching the bag and subsequently scratching your head are extremely low. Moreover, rabies is a relatively rare disease in many parts of the world, including Mumbai, and most people who are exposed to potential rabies do not develop the disease. However, since you have anxiety and OCD,I NEED FURTHER INFORMATION
