Problem After Inguinal Hernia Repair
Hi doctor I got my Inguinal Hernia operated on 1st July 2020 it was an open surgery because of ICMR Guidelines there was no Laproscopic surgeries happening that time. It went successful and there was just a normal discomfort as wound was fresh. Its been more than 5 months now but from last few weeks I am feeling discomfort and little bit pain in the Hernia area specially the incision area. There is no such swelling but I feel bit tight and pain at the hernia area I don't feel a mesh now when I touch that area with my hands but sometimes I feel pain. Please guide me is there any serious issues or it is just a normal thing after hernia repair and when can I expect complete comfort ane fine like before hernia?

Discomfort can be there for 2-3 months after operation, may extend upto 6 months in few patients Pain and discomfort are 2 diffrent things, There should not b pain It ll b better if u explain more about ur pain, severity type exact location etc Third thing u cant feel mesh by touching especially after 5 months coz body accepts it so well and tissue grows around it. Need to know more details of the pain so that i can guide u in better way

Hello! Sorry to hear about your pain. As a hernia specialist there a few questions that came to my mind after reading your query. A. What was your symptom before surgery? B. How bad was the pain right after surgery? How bad is the pain now? Scale it from 0-10. C. Can you describe the character of this pain? D. The exact location of the pain? Any radiation of the pain? E. Does the pain has anything to do with your physical activity? F. Can you bend forward? G. Is the sensation alright around the scar area? H. Is the skin looking normal around the scar? I. Was mesh placed? If yes, what kind of mesh? This is a good start for primary evaluation.
Next Steps
Don’t bear pain. Bearing pain leads to chronic pain that is very difficult to treat. We need to find the root cause and treat it immediately. Consult at the earliest.
