Inguinal hernia
Is it true that after hernia surgery a patient can't lift heavy weights throughout life because it can create complications and also increase chances of getting hernia again? And also it is often said that inguinal hernia surgery can also lead to problem of impotency in males. Is that true?

Take it easy for atleast 6 months after the inguinal hernia surgery. Let your operated area heal during this period.
Next Steps
Wear an abdominal belt or binder whenever you have to lift heavy weight in gym or otherwise.

Avoid lifting heavy weights for atleast 3 to 6 months because it can lead to recurrence of hernia due to pressure over that point.Hernia surgery doesnt lead to impotence as such.Nothing to worry about.Consult online for further info.

Hello! I’ll take queries one by one. A. Lifting weights: Medicine works in tandem with science but humans, at times, work purely on emotions. There is no scientific data that suggests that a person should never lift heavy in his lifetime after hernia surgery, either open or lap. The robustness of repair depends upon technique and use of mesh. The mesh slowly becomes part of the body that supports your abdominal wall. Take it easy in the begging but don’t restrict your activities. Pain is best guide for ANY physical activity. B. Impotence I assume you meant infertility. No for impotence and a rare event of sterility if it’s a bilateral hernia surgery. Very very rare in the real world.
