Elephantiasis, also known as lymphatic filariasis is a major cause of morbidity in endemic areas. (Areas with high incidence of this disease) It can cause debilitating and morbidity associated with it. Although there are no vaccines approved for its prevention, filariasis can be prevented by reducing the stagnation of water and reducing the mosquito breeding rates. Another strategy carried out in the endemic areas, usually by the governing authorities is mass drug administration. Mass drug administration using various regimens of DEC (single dose and medicated salt), ivermectin, and albendazole had been in place in some countries

Protect against mosquito bites: Use insect repellent, wear long-sleeved clothing, and use bed nets to minimize contact with mosquitoes. Practice good hygiene: Maintain proper sanitation and cleanliness to prevent secondary infections, which can worsen the condition. Take medication: Mass drug administration programs in affected areas provide medication that can prevent the transmission of the disease. Avoid exposure to stagnant water: The parasites that cause elephantiasis are often found in areas with stagnant water, so take precautions to avoid such environments. Stay informed: If you live in or plan to visit regions where elephantiasis is prevalent, stay informed about the disease and the preventative measures in place.
