Hello Doctor, I need advice regarding a possible pregnancy risk after having sex with my girlfriend.
We had sex on 19 October and used a condom. During intercourse, I was about to ejaculate and decided to ejaculate while still inside her, assuming the condom was properly on. After ejaculation, when I pulled my penis out, I noticed that my penis had come out of the condom, while the condom itself was still inside her vagina. I then removed the condom manually.
My concern is that I'm not sure exactly when the condom slipped off. There are two possibilities:
The condom stayed on my penis throughout ejaculation and slipped off only when I pulled out, meaning the semen was contained inside the condom.
The condom slipped off during intercourse without me noticing, and I may have continued penetration without it and ejaculated inside her vagina.
I'm worried that semen may have entered her vagina, and I don't know how to assess the pregnancy risk.
Could you please advise us on this
If the condom stayed in place through ejaculation and only slipped off as you withdrew, the semen would have stayed inside the condom and the pregnancy risk is low. If it slipped off earlier during intercourse without being noticed, direct contact with semen is possible and the risk is real. Since you can't be fully sure which happened, it's safest to treat this as a genuine pregnancy risk.
Next Steps
Take an emergency contraceptive pill as soon as possible. It has been about 3 days since intercourse, so acting today matters, since these pills work best the sooner they're taken. Track your next period and take a home pregnancy test if it is delayed by more than a week.
Health Tips
See a gynaecologist if your period doesn't arrive as expected, or if you develop heavy bleeding or pain afterward.
