Just having a small hiatus hernia does not warrant for surgery. In case if the hernia is sliding type with the stomach going in the chest or if you have symptoms of GERD, then it is better to plan for surgery as long standing hiatus hernia may give rise to Barrett's esophagus which in itself is a complication. If you can share the endoscopy report, then it will be more clear  to advise you regarding the further treatment option
Next Steps
have meals on regular time. avoid sleeping immediately after food. avoid oily and spicy food.
