Pigmentation of tongue

I recently noticed black marks on the sides of my tongue. It doesnt pain or burn. Could you please elaborate on the cause. I quit smoking 5 months ago. Please help.

Dear sir, it is not always necessary that as soon as you quit your habit, the discolouration is gone. It usually subsided after a long period or sometimes is not at all gone but it’s not going to hurt you .
