A gap of about a month since your last period, with only a couple of dark spotting drops and some cramping, usually points to either a delayed ovulation this cycle or an early pregnancy. Dark spotting is typically just older blood and isn't dangerous on its own.

Take a home urine pregnancy test now, since it's been over four weeks since your last period. If it comes back negative and your period still hasn't properly started in the next few days, please see a gynaecologist to check your hormone levels.
