Periodontal ligament widening.
What is the treatment for periodontal ligament widening? Is Extraction the only solution for it? I have jaw pain under the ear and neck pain for more than 10 months now. Tooth 46 hurts for tapping and biting pressure. Dentist suspect root fracture. Endo told to do root canal. Had Rct and crown. Still the same symptoms on that tooth. It's been 6 months after root canal. Still same tapping and biting pressure on it. And same lower jaw under ear& neck pain. Been to many dentist and doctors. No answers yet. Saw a dentist for second opinion last week. He said he can see periodontal ligament widening on my old xrays. But he didn't say what would have been done for that. I had root canal and crown on it. No cavities or infection noted. Had cbct scan and no fracture spotted. My previous dentist still blame this tooth as a reason for my jaw pain under ear and neck. Don't know the reason yet. Neck CT scan normal results. Had CT as I have 2 lump spots on jaw under ear and neck.what to do PDL?

Hello As the pdl of your tooth has widened and the maximum chewing force is on the molars you experiencing pain... A deep scaling and root planing will be helpful around that area.. please consult an ENT specialist for ear pain... If no problem in ear then the pain could be because of tenderness of tmj... For sometime please avoid hot food and hard food as it might increase the pain

Can you please provide your current symptoms exactly? As, PDL WIDENING occurs in case of acute apical periodontitis or trauma from occulsion In simple words, Deep caries or defective bite might be the cause for it. Also from given results OF CT 2 lump spots are seen on the jaws under the ear & neck So it requires comprehensive dental clinical examination Thanks!
